Kelly Factory Racing

All one has to do is show up at a local bicycle race on any given Sunday to realize just how much raw talent is out there.

We @ Kelly salute the many devoted and talented riders that show up at these weekend events all through the year-- year after year.

While there is so much great talent out there it's an exceptional two that found their way onto the Kelly Factory Team -- Dorothy Wong & Stella Carey.

Thanks to the fine folks at Michelin, True Temper, PowerBar, Paul Components & Bell Helmets who help make our race program a success. Whithout you we wouldn't be where we are.

Stella Carey wins Pro Women's 2003 Shasta Lemurian Classic.

Shasta Lake CA   5/2/03

Kelly Factory Team rider Stella Carey rides her One Speed to crushing overall victory in the Pro Women's category at the 2003 Shasta Lemurian Classic. With a finish time of 3:17 she managed to capture not only the single speed class #1 podium spot but the geared class as well -- which in itself is a rare occurrence in the world of Cross Country mountain bike racing.

Friend and team mate Josh Bennett who cruised to a tidy and well respected forth place finish in the men’s single speed class remarked, “at this race it’s one thing to pull off winning the single speed class in itself but to beat all the other pro geared women as well is just plain off the hook”.

This years Lemurian which is notorious from year to year for it’s dramatically flip flopping weather pattern was in one of it’s more terrible winter storm, rain and sloppy mud modes -- as mother nature dished out some of the worst conditions mountain bike racing has to offer.

As mucky and difficult as it was Stella still managed to point out a couple of the days positive notes which were, “it stopped raining as soon as the race started and held off till after we finished” and, “I didn’t have any shifting problems”. She added, “oh yeah, they had a really good lunch afterwards too."

Josh and Stella both ride a stock Kelly Deluxe Single Speed (Builders Choice) equipped with Michelin tires, tubes, and rim strips, Manitou forks, Chris King headsets, Paul hubs, Time pedals, and are fueled exclusively by Powerbar.

FYI
Michelin tire setup: Comp S Lite (rear) Front S (front).
Powerbar (during race): Stella - chocolate, Josh – banana
Powergel (during race): Stella – vanilla, Josh – strawberry/banana
Protein plus (after race): Stella - cookies and cream, Josh- cookies and cream

Thanks to all our sponsors, families and friends for helping us onto the podium one more time.

Single Speed World Champion, Stella Carey!

Downieville, California USA - Stella's still groovin' as she rides to a first place finish at the 2002 Speed World Championships held in historic Downieville, CA.

Stella Carey riding for Kelly® Bike Company's factory racing team who was the 2000 Women's One Speed World Champ was out to settle the score in Downieville last Saturday as she rode her factory Deluxe One Speed to a bold and decisive victory.

"No ifs, ands, or but's in this time around like in Minneapolis." said Carey as she glowed from the excitement of it all. "Seemed there was some Hub Bub about who really won the 2000 Championships with people cutting the course, getting lost, not knowing how many laps they did and whatever else." chuckled the now twice reigning Champ. "Well, I guess I won today and it feels pretty darn good." she said with a smile.

Special thanks go to Michelin for making such a bitchin set of tires -- XL-S and Front -S 2.0's. "Those tires hooked up!"

To Paul of Paul Components who's only remark was, "Will you marry me Stella?" for being the brave original single speed MTB hub guy and hanging in there with the Kelly® Crew through all it's endeavors. Thank you!
