Ive
been in the bike business for over 15 years. Im 39 years old and
one things for sure. You learn a heck of a lot about people running
your own business in this industry. Much more than I expected or bargained
for.
The three main things
that keep ringing true about people to me are 1) we humans are definitely
creatures of habit, and 2) we are forgetful, 3) some people will believe
or settle for anything they hear (no matter how obviously untrue the
story or facts are), and last but not least, 4) you dont know
what you dont know.
I have found myself
many times shaking my head in dismay and or disbelief at what I had
heard or seen. Instead of gratifying the subject further by commenting
or rebutting it I simply would take a deep breath, sigh, and walk
away wondering, is this what its all come to?
You can pick
your friends and you can pick your nose, but you cant pick your
friends nose.
OK, I dont know who first said it or where I first heard it
but I try to live my life by this simple golden rule (for the most
part). It basically says to me live and let live. Or, let people make
their own mistakes and live their own lives. Cool for the most part,
huh?
Yeah, until you realize that its at someone elses expense.
When you realize that someone else is somebody who actually worked
his or her ass off (unlike many) to build a company, future, and a
name or whatever just so some fly by night dumb ass could take pop
shots at it and try to tear it down with his or her slanderous, untrue
and undignified remarks.
I hear and see this kind of shortsighted and ignorant behavior much
too much these days in way too many places. Its kind of like
an epidemic or a cancer that inevitably causes the inevitable. Why
are people so consumed with repeating and relaying wrong or wrongful
information (gossiping) instead of taking the high road?
One day I got this idea. I figure theres a whole bunch of stuff
I have learned through the years (first hand) about all kinds of stuff
that I would like to share with other people (you). So
. Rather
that pointing the finger like some ranting or angry protester I thought
I might just try a subtle approach to the problem. Instead of getting
everyone up in arms or pissed off I thought it would be much more
productive if I just shared my perspective on stuff in general. Ill
call it, Heres My Thing.
Itll be my take on the way I see or have experienced
things on a first hand basis. Straight up genuine first hand information.
What a concept, huh? Keep in mind however that I have embraced the
fact that as much as I struggle to try and overcome the 4 (aforementioned)
facts I find myself susceptible to them as well (except for #3).
Theres more than one way to skin a cat (kinda gross if
you think about it). This will just be my way. God! I hope I havent
opened up a big can of worms!
